Vik X Dotty - Collaboration
“An artist should never be a prisoner of himself, prisoner of style, prisoner of reputation, prisoner of success.”
I saw a ‘step by step’ design of Vik Kainth’s ‘Hera’ and the idea of a collaboration jumped out at me. Within an hour, he supplied me with the line drawing (fig.1) then I transferred it to canvas and dotty-fied it! (fig.2)
I then combined the two and made a cheeky digital/painted image (fig.3), I fired this back over to Vik and he did his thing on the background (fig.4).
We are both artists building a following, and it was wonderful to work with someone who understands digital design (I did graphics at uni!). I think this has a wider significance… a significance outside of mine and his bubble, outside of the growing British Asian Artist UK gang, or outside of British Asian art in general. This collaboration just demonstrates what happens when two artists give a few hours of time to working together. I hate to think of art as a competitive sport, instead it is a deep desire for people to love your output, and collaborating on something that delicate is a thrilling experience.

I’ve agreed to further collaborations with another artist and I’m hoping to find ways of working with writers, poets, musicians, actors etc in the future :)
